Happy Monday everyone! I wanted to do a quick post to share my latest concoction. I go back and forth on protein powder because it’s often not very delicious, and even if it is delicious, it’s not filling enough to keep me from eating more later, which turns into extra calories. I love the protein, since I need it as a vegetarian, but it just never seems to live up to my expectations. Enter the protein smoothie.
We happened to have some free samples of chocolate protein powder from John’s work, and since I’m on a smoothie kick, I was brainstorming ways to marry the two. I decided to go for a banana, chocolate, peanut butter combo and fully expected a disaster. Happily, I could not have been more wrong! The result was a protein packed smoothie that (NO JOKE) tastes exactly like a chocolate milkshake. Sweets are my greatest weakness, so healthy sweets for breakfast is basically heaven on earth. Without further ado, here is the recipe:
1 banana (frozen in chunks/slices)
1/2 serving of chocolate protein powder
1 tsp. nut butter (I used peanut)
1/4 c. skim milk
3/4 c. water
Nutrition info: 260 calories, 20g protein
Remember to lay out your fruit on a flat surface to freeze it.
Blend all ingredients and enjoy!
Sooo good! I’ve made these twice now. Pro tip: the riper the banana, the less banana-y it tastes, and the more it is just creamy and milkshake-y. You could do so many variations with this too (and I plan to). No nut butter, more nut butter, more protein powder, no milk, more milk, whatever suits your fancy!
Do any of you have a favorite protein powder? I have a hard time with them because of vegetarian and frustose issues so I would love suggestions 🙂 And now, back to the books!
